Three people have been arrested in connection with the killing of a Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) in a drug-laden car crash in Chittagong. They are the driver of the microbus. Belal (34), Md. Rashed Prakash Russell (26) and Shamsul Alam (60).
Mokhlesur Rahman, the deputy commissioner of city north police, told a press conference at his office on Saturday afternoon. They were arrested in raids in different parts of the city and district on Friday night.
Deputy Commissioner. Mokhlesur Rahman said the three accused arrested were members of an organized drug trafficking ring. They brought distilled liquor from Rangamati and supplied it to Chittagong and some surrounding areas. They have been in the drug business for a year. There are several cases in their names in the Raozan and Boalkhali police stations of the district.
Abu Bakar Siddique, the additional deputy commissioner of the northern division of the city police, said the microbus used for transporting drugs had been seized. The motorcycle that escorted the microbus during drug trafficking was also recovered.
On June 11, ASI Kazi Salauddin of Chandgaon police station signaled to stop a microbus carrying drugs on the basis of secret information in the Chandgaon police station area of the city. At that time the car pushed him away. Salauddin was later admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital with serious injuries and died on the same day. A case was filed in this incident.
